Flooding Response Policy
The Village
Board of the Village of Saukville established the
following Flooding Response Policy on March 19, 2008:
“Preventative
measures for avoiding or minimizing flood damages generally are
limited to deployment of sand bags. Other than the generally
recognized function of a municipality to take reasonable steps to
promote public safety, health and welfare within its jurisdiction,
there are no established policies/protocols regarding the protection
of privately owned structures (e.g., homes, businesses, etc.) from
flooding. Consequently, private property owners must bear primary
responsibility for the protection of their property, and should not
rely on the village to assume that obligation.”
In view of
limited or over-extended resources in the event of a flood
emergency, the Village has determined that the most effective use of
village resources will be to protect public facilities, give the
earliest notification possible to property owners, and to provide
for sale available materials such as sand bags and sand, at cost, to property
owners (subject to reimbursement).
The Village will:
-
Disseminate information
received regarding potential flooding in the Village.
-
Provide sand bags (empty)
and/or sand at replacement cost to Village residents. Sand
Bags will be maintained at the Public Works Garage at 649 S.
Main St. during normal working hours, and by the Police
Department after work hours. A supply of sand will be
maintained outside the Public Works Garage gate to fill the sand
bags.
-
Provide information on sand
bagging procedures.
-
Provide curb side pallet pick
up and disposal services for used sandbags.
-
Provide protective services
(sand bagging & pumping) for municipal buildings/facilities.
The Village will not:
-
Provide pumping services to
private property.
-
Sand bag private property.
-
Fill sand bags to be used to
protect private property.
-
Deliver sand or sand bags to
be used on private property.
Owners of
properties that are susceptible to flooding are encouraged to check
with their insurance agent to determine if they have adequate flood
coverage, and to take such other precautions and preparations as
deemed appropriate.
If you have any
questions please contact Dawn Wagner, Village Administrator, or Jack
Morrison, Emergency Management Director at (262)284-9423.
Trash & Recycling Updates:
Veolia Services, our current trash/recycle
service, provides a roll out trash and recycling cart to all residential households.
Trash and recycling is collected on Thursdays (Fridays when a
holiday occurs earlier in the work week - M-F) and must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on pick-up day; however,
recycling will be collected only every other week.
Carts must face the street as indicated by the arrow on the cart, must be
fully accessible, and must be placed side by side with a minimum of three (3) feet of space
between carts and/or other obstacles. The recycling collection dates are posted on this website under the Navigation
menu, 'Recycling Collection' link, and can also be found on the
Village's Government Access Cable Channel 25. Information is also
available at Village Hall and Oscar Grady Library.
If you should miss a trash/recycling pick-up
day, you can take your trash and/or recycling to
the Veolia drop-off site at 803 N. River Road, West Bend.
Effective September 2010, electronic
devices cannot be disposed of in your household trash cart. These devices
include, but are not limited to:
-
Computers, monitors,
printers, and peripherals
-
Televisions and video
screens
-
Fax machines and
photocopiers
-
VCR and DVD players
-
Telephones with video
displays
The nearest collection center
for disposal of these items is:
Veolia ES Technical Solutions, LLC
1275 Mineral Springs Drive, Port Washington
Hours: Mondays - 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
262-243-8998
There will be a fee charged for
disposal.
All
recyclable materials (paper, plastic, glass, metal) can be placed in the same
recycle cart; there is no need to separate. Residents are urged not to
place trash loosely in trash carts as this will lead to odor and pest problems as
well as blowing materials when the carts are emptied. Any trash or recyclable
materials placed curbside in any container other than the carts
will not be
collected.
Large item pick-up service has not changed. To dispose of large items,
such as furniture, mattresses, and appliances, you still need to arrange for
special pick-up by Veolia, or you can take items to the Veolia drop-off site
at 803 N. River Road, West Bend.
There is a fee for large item disposal. Contact Veolia directly
(1-800-387-0949)
for prices and information.
Residents
generating large amounts of refuse should also arrange for special pick-up in
advance before placing trash curbside, or arrange for dumpster service.
Please note, due to
changing financial circumstances and budgetary constraints, the Village Board
has determined that it is necessary to charge a separate fee to one, two, and
three-family residential properties for the cost of garbage and recycling
collection. This charge is included as a separate line item on the tax
bill. The charge is for your next
year's garbage and
recycling collection.

YARD
WASTE DISPOSAL (Compost)
How do you get rid of garden waste, leaves and
lawn rakings from your yard clean-up? Wisconsin DNR strongly
recommends that these materials NOT be placed in the street.
Lawn clippings and yard waste must NOT be put in the street at any
time. Place them in bags, buckets, or other suitable containers
and bring them to the Village Compost Drop-off Site at the Public
Works Garage, 649 E. Green Bay Ave.
April 16 - Nov. 12,
2011
Saturdays:
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Resident Identification Required
Leaf collection is not guaranteed.
It will be done as time and weather permit October
through November. We strongly suggest that you
containerize your leaves and bring them to the compost site before
the compost closing date for the year. If leaves are raked to the curb, please remember not to park
vehicles on or near the leaves so the truck can reach them.
Also, do not rake leaves into large/high piles. Long strips
along the curb-line are easiest for the Vac-all truck to collect.
Tornado Warning Sirens
The tornado
warning sirens are only sounded when a tornado warning is sent to us
by the National Weather Service. The sirens are controlled by the Police Dispatcher or the Fire
Department. They are also on a prevention maintenance
program to ensure their condition. The monthly test is done on the
first Friday of the month. The
placement of the alarms is
periodically checked to ensure that they can be heard in all parts
of the Village. Any
questions concerning this alert system
may be directed to the Village Hall.
Dog and Cat Licenses
All Village of Saukville residents owning a cat or dog older than 6
months are required by Village Ordinance to purchase a
license. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required for
licensing. Village Ordinance limits each household to three
(3) adult pets.
Dog
License fees:
Cat License fees:
$8.00 spayed or neutered $5.00 spayed or
neutered
$10.00 not spayed or neutered $7.00 not spayed or
neutered
Letters will go out to owners of unlicensed pets by June.
Failure to license your pet(s)
could result in a fine.
Licenses
purchased after March 31 will be assessed a late penalty of $5.00
for dog licensing and $3.00 for cat licensing.
DISPOSAL OF CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
It is the responsibility of the contractor or
homeowner to provide for the storage and disposal of construction
materials. Waste materials must be stored in a manner to keep them
from view, prevent the attraction of vermin and keep light materials
from blowing in the wind. OPEN BURNING OF CONSTRUCTION WASTE IS
PROHIBITED IN THE VILLAGE! The spring clean-up dumpster is not for
the disposal of more than one cubic yard TOTAL for any construction
project. Likewise, the curbside trash pick-up provided by Veolia
Environmental
Services is not for construction waste disposal other than small
amounts. There are several disposal contractors in the area that can
provide drop-off dumpster service and are the recommended avenue of
construction waste disposal. Dumpsters are not allowed to
be placed on the street. Materials may not be stored on the
street.
