Yard Waste (Compost) Disposal

How do you get rid of garden waste, leaves and lawn rakings from your yard clean-up? Wisconsin DNR strongly recommends that these materials NOT be placed in the street.  Lawn clippings and yard waste must NOT be put in the street at any time.

Place them in bags, buckets or other suitable containers and bring them to the Village Compost Drop-off Site at the Public Works Garage, 649 S. Main Street.

This site is for Village of Saukville residents only.

April 16, 2011  thru  Nov. 12, 2011

Saturdays Only:  9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Identification may be requested.

Curbside Branch Chipping

The Village chipping crew will begin touring the Village starting April 4, 2011 and continuing every Monday through October 31, 2011 (no chipping holiday weeks).

  • Stack branches (3" max. diameter) neatly on the parkway (area between the sidewalk and curb), with the cut ends of branches facing the street by 6:30 a.m. on Monday mornings.

  • DO NOT place branches on the sidewalk or street where they would interfere with pedestrians or vehicle traffic.

  • DO NOT place branches at curbside sooner than the immediate preceding weekend.  We DO NOT chip tree/bush stumps.

  • No Compost

  • The chipping crew is limited to 20 minutes per address, after which a $25.00 fee is charged for each additional 20 minute at the property owner’s request.  The owner will be billed for the additional time beyond the first 20 minutes.

  • The crew will make only one pass per side of the street per chipping event.

Due to the curbside chipping, the Village has a surplus of woodchips available to residents.  Residents can pick up woodchips at the DPW yard waste site at 649 S. Main Street.  You must bring your own container and shovel or pitch fork.  The Village will also deliver woodchips, however, the resident must accept a full truck load (3-5 yards) and the Village will not come back for unused woodchips.

There is NO BRANCH/BRUSH DROP-OFF ACCEPTED AT THE COMPOST SITE.

Please call Village Hall for more information.

Leaf Collection

Fall curbside leaf sweeping will begin October 3 and run through November 30, 2011.  Leaf collection is not guaranteed.  It will be done as time and weather permit.  We strongly suggest that you containerize your leaves and bring them to the compost site before the compost closing date for the year.

If leaves are raked to the curb, please remember not to park vehicles on or near the leaves so the truck can reach them.  Also, do not rake leaves into large/high piles.  Long strips along the curb-line are easiest for the Vac-all truck to collect.

Household Hazardous Material Disposal

Household hazardous materials are typically comprised of paints, pesticides, waste oil, anti-freeze and typical household cleaners. These materials must NOT be placed in the trash. They can be taken to the Ozaukee County Hazardous Waste Collection Site (information below). Fees will be charged on a per pound basis.

Trees
If you have a diseased, dead, or otherwise dangerous tree in your parkway, call the Department of Public Works at 284-0545. In addition, permission is required from the Superintendent of the Public Works Department to plant, prune, cut or spray any trees or shrubs located in the parkway.

Streets
To report holes or otherwise dangerous conditions in the Village streets, phone the Department of Public Works at 284-0545 or the Police Department at 284-0444. Hazardous or unsafe sidewalks should also be reported to the Department of Public Works.

Disposal of Construction Materials

It is the responsibility of the contractor or homeowner to provide for the storage and disposal of construction materials. Waste materials must be stored in a manner to keep them from view, prevent the attraction of vermin and keep light materials from blowing in the wind. OPEN BURNING OF CONSTRUCTION WASTE IS PROHIBITED IN THE VILLAGE! The spring clean-up dumpster is not for the disposal of more than one cubic yard TOTAL for any construction project. Likewise, the curbside trash pick-up provided by Violia Environmental Services is not for construction waste disposal other than small amounts. There are several disposal contractors in the area that can provide drop-off dumpster service and are the recommended avenue of construction waste disposal.  Dumpsters are not allowed to be placed on the street.  Materials may not be stored on the street.
