Summer Sewer Credit
The Summer Sewer Credit has been discontinued.
There will
be no sewer credit in the third quarter, July 1st
through September 30th.
If you have any questions, please contact Village Hall.
Public Fire Protection
Effective January 2010, the Public Fire Protection (PFP) fee was
removed from the general property tax levy. The PFP fee
is now assessed on the quarterly water bills.
The intent of the PFP charge is to recover the costs related to
Water System capacity that is necessary for fire protection purposes
(e.g., water storage needs, fire hydrant capital replacement and
maintenance, additional well and pumping equipment capacity, etc.)
The Village Board chose to make this change for the following
reasons:
· PFP
fee, as a direct charge on the water bill, does not count toward the
Village’s levy limit; therefore, increases to the PFP charges due to
future water rate increases do not force reductions in other Village
services.
· Property
taxes currently earmarked for PFP charges can
be used for other vital municipal services.
· Tax
exempt entities will now pay for the PFP service.
The Village has chosen to use the Equivalent Meters Method to
allocate these charges based on the ratio of meter size.
Medication Disposal
Please do not discard old medications by flushing them down the
toilet or throwing them in the trash. Save them in their original
containers in a safe place.
The Saukville Police Department now has a
Med-Return Collection unit
located in the lobby of the P.D. building at 649 E
Green Bay Ave.
Residents can drop unwanted or expired
prescription, over-the-counter, and
other unused household medications in the drop
unit Monday thru Friday during
normal business hours for proper disposal. Call 284-0444 for more
information.
The Ozaukee County Public Health
Department offers a Medication Take Back Program periodically
throughout the year where old medications and prescriptions,
including pet medications, can be disposed of safely. This service
is for Ozaukee County residents and is free of charge. Watch the
newspaper and Village Cable Station 25 for information on future
medication take back dates or call the Ozaukee County Public Health
Department at 284-8170 for more information.
High Water Bills and Water Valves in Homes
Your water bills are determined by Saukville
Utility staff reading your water meter. When your water bill becomes
higher than normal, there is usually a leak in your home. When your
water bill is high, check your toilets - 95% of all leaks are
toilets and most times you cannot hear the leak. The toilet most
likely leaking is the toilet rarely used. You should also
periodically check all of your valves in your home and start reading
your meter weekly. This way you can make sure there are no leaks in
your home so that you are only billed for the water you use.
Sump Pumps
Please
remember to check your sump pump and make sure it is hooked up
correctly to the sump pump discharge lateral and
not
to the sanitary sewer system. Per Village Ordinance, it is illegal
to hook-up or discharge storm water or clear water into the
Village’s sanitary sewer lines. Since all discharges to the
sanitary sewer end up at the treatment plant, this creates
additional problems to properly process the wastewater for eventual
discharge to the river. If you have any questions, please call the
Utility Department at 284-3185.
