Village Government - Things to Know

Property Taxes
Property taxes may be paid in full or by installments at the Municipal Center, Port Washington State Bank and Harris Bank, Saukville Branches. Full payment or the first half installment must be paid by January 31 (by December 31 if you wish to claim it on the current year's income taxes).  The second installment is due by July 31 at the Ozaukee County Courthouse.   Refer to "Tax Information" on the Navigation Menu for more information.

Med-Return Drug Collection

The Saukville Police Department now has a Med-Return Collection unit located

in the lobby of the P.D. building at 649 E Green Bay Ave.

Residents can drop unwanted or expired prescription, over-the-counter, and other

unused household medications in the drop unit Monday thru Friday during normal

business hours for proper disposal.

Trash & Recycling Updates

The Village of Saukville currently uses roll out trash and recycling carts for all residential households disposal.  Trash and recycling will continue to be collected on Thursdays (Fridays during a holiday week) and must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on pick-up day; however, recycling will be collected only every other weekCarts must face the street as indicated by the arrow on the cart, must be fully accessible, and must be placed with a minimum of three (3) feet of space between carts and/or other obstacles.  The recycling collection dates are posted on this website under the Navigation menu, 'Recycling Collection' link, and can also be found on  the Village's Government Access Cable Channel 25.  Information is also available at Village Hall and Oscar Grady Library.

Effective January 1, 2010, electronic devices cannot be disposed of in your household trash cart.  These devices include, but are not limited to:

  • Computers, monitors, printers, and peripherals

  • Televisions and video screens

  • Fax machines and photocopiers

  • VCR and DVD players

  • Telephones with video displays

The nearest collection center for disposal of these items is:

          Veolia ES Technical Solutions, LLC

1275 Mineral Springs Drive, Port Washington

           Hours:  Mondays - 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

           262-243-8998

There will be a fee charged for disposal.

All recyclable materials (paper, plastic, glass, metal) can be placed in the same recycle cart; there is no need to separate.  Residents are urged not to place trash loosely in trash carts as this will lead to odor and pest problems as well as blowing materials when the carts are emptied.  Any trash or recyclable materials placed curbside in any container other than the carts will not be collected.

Large item pick-up service has not changed.  To dispose of large items, such as furniture, mattresses, and appliances, you still need to arrange for special pick-up by Veolia, or you can take items to the Veolia drop-off site at 803 N. River Road,  West Bend.  There is a fee for large item disposal.  Contact Veolia directly (1-800-387-0949) for prices and information.  Residents generating large amounts of refuse should also arrange for special pick-up in advance before placing trash curbside, or arrange for dumpster service.

Please note, due to changing financial circumstances and budgetary constraints, the Village Board has determined that it is necessary to charge a separate fee to one, two, and three-family residential properties for the cost of garbage and recycling collection.  This charge is included as a separate line item on the tax bill.  The charge is for your next year's garbage and recycling collection.

Voter Registration
Village of Saukville voters can register at the Municipal Center up to two weeks before an election.  Registration is also conducted at the polling site, American Legion Post #470, 601 W. Dekora St., on election days.  In order to register, you must be at least 18 years of age and a citizen of the United States.  You will need a valid WI driver's license with your current  address.  If your current address is not on your driver's license, you will need an additional docu-ment verifying your current address (utility bill, cable bill, phone bill).

Flooding Response Policy

The Village Board of the Village of Saukville on March 19, 2008 established the following Flooding Response Policy:

“Preventative measures for avoiding or minimizing flood damages generally are limited to deployment of sand bags.  Other than the generally recognized function of a municipality to take reasonable steps to promote public safety, health and welfare within its jurisdiction, there are no established policies/protocols regarding the protection of privately owned structures (e.g., homes, businesses, etc.) from flooding.  Consequently, private property owners must bear primary responsibility for the protection of their property, and should not rely on the village to assume that obligation.”

In view of limited or over-extended resources in the event of a flood emergency, the Village has determined that the most effective use of village resources will be to protect public facilities, give the earliest notification possible to property owners, and to provide for sale available materials such as sand bags, at cost, to property owners.

Owners of properties that are susceptible to flooding are encouraged to check with their insurance agent to determine if they have adequate flood coverage, and to take such other precautions and preparations as deemed appropriate.

If you have any questions please contact Dawn Wagner, Village Administrator, or Jack Morrison, Emergency Management Director at (262)284-9423.
