From the clarifiers, treated water flows to the Ultra-Violet (UV) Disinfection Building which was constructed over a portion of the existing chlorine contact tanks. Here the water flows past multiple glass tubes emitting UV light which disinfects the water. The UV light disrupts the genetic code of the pathogens in the wastewater preventing them from further reproduction.
Finally, the now disinfected treated water flows down a series of steps for additional aeration, just prior to the outfall leading to the Milwaukee River.
